From One Chapter to the Next
Year 6 Proms 2026 | Celebrating New Beginnings Across Pembrokeshire
As another school year draws to a close, I once again had the privilege of photographing Year 6 school proms and leavers’ celebrations across Pembrokeshire.
Within just 24 hours, I had the pleasure of photographing two wonderful primary school proms. Although each school celebrated in its own unique way, one thing remained the same – the excitement, the friendships and the pride as the children marked the end of an important chapter before beginning their journey into secondary school.
For every child, this is a milestone they will remember for years to come. Friendships that began in Reception have grown over seven wonderful years, and now it’s time for exciting new adventures, new classrooms and new opportunities.
One of the things I enjoy most about photographing school proms is seeing every child’s personality shine through. From elegant dresses and smart suits to nervous smiles that quickly turn into laughter with friends, every portrait tells its own story. Of course, not every photograph has to be serious! Alongside the polished portraits were plenty of funny faces, laughter and unforgettable moments. Sometimes it’s those spontaneous photographs that become the family favourites because they capture a child’s personality perfectly.
One of the loveliest moments for me this year was recognising some of the children I photographed. Several were babies and toddlers when I first met them, and now, years later, I found myself photographing them again at their Year 6 prom. Moments like these remind me just how special photography can be. It isn’t simply about capturing a single occasion; it’s about preserving memories throughout a family’s journey and watching those children grow over the years.
To all of the Year 6 pupils I photographed this year—congratulations. Be proud of everything you have achieved. I hope these photographs become treasured reminders of your final days at primary school, the friendships you have made, and the excitement of looking ahead to everything that lies ahead.
