The Pawfect Welsh Escape
Discover dog-friendly holidays across Wales through my photography 🐾

Muddy Paws and Salty Kisses
There is something special about exploring Wales with a four-legged friend by your side. Every cottage below has been personally photographed by Beverley Thomas Photography. Each one offers something a little different, From windswept beaches and woodland walks to cosy cottages where dogs are as welcome as their owners, some of my favourite property photography assignments have introduced me to truly wonderful dog-friendly places to stay.
Along the way I’ve also photographed some lovely holiday guests enjoying their adventures—always with permission—and those moments reminded me that holidays are about memories as much as beautiful accommodation.
If you’re planning your next escape, here are a few places that might just have your dog’s tail wagging before you’ve even packed the car.

Mulberry & Marmalade Cottage
A Peaceful Countryside Retreat for Dogs and Their Humans
Nestled within the beautiful West Wales countryside, this charming restored stone cottage offers a peaceful escape for couples looking to unwind with their four-legged companions.
I had the pleasure of photographing this delightful property and was immediately drawn to its warm, welcoming atmosphere. Surrounded by open countryside on a peaceful equestrian holding, it’s the kind of place where you can truly slow down, enjoy the views and reconnect with nature.
One of the standout features is the enclosed garden, giving dogs a safe space to explore while their owners relax outdoors. Even better, there’s a circular countryside walk that begins right from the doorstep, making those early morning and evening strolls effortless.
Inside, the cottage blends rustic character with modern comforts. Original stonework, thoughtful interiors and cosy living spaces create the perfect setting to return to after a day exploring the surrounding countryside and coastline.
Although wonderfully secluded, the cottage is well placed for discovering some of Ceredigion’s best-loved destinations. The colourful harbour town of New Quay, the sandy beaches of Aberporth and the welcoming market town of Llandysul are all within easy reach, offering plenty of opportunities for scenic walks, local cafés and memorable days out with your dog.

Why Wales is Pawfect Destination for Dogs 🐾
One of the greatest joys of holidaying in Wales is that you never have to leave your four-legged friend behind. Whether your ideal escape is a windswept beach, a peaceful woodland stroll or a mountain adventure, Wales offers endless opportunities to explore together.
Stretching for 186 miles, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is one of Britain’s most spectacular walking routes. From dramatic cliffs and hidden coves to golden sandy beaches, every turn reveals another breathtaking view. Many of Pembrokeshire’s beaches welcome dogs throughout the year, making it easy to enjoy long coastal walks whatever the season.
Just a little further east, the Gower Peninsula—the UK’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty—is another paradise for dog lovers. With iconic beaches such as Rhossili Bay, Three Cliffs Bay and Oxwich, together with miles of scenic cliff-top paths and hidden coves, it’s easy to understand why so many visitors return year after year. Swansea also provides a fantastic base, offering a vibrant waterfront, parks, cafés and easy access to both city life and spectacular coastline.
Further inland, the magnificent Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park offers a completely different landscape. Rolling hills, waterfalls, open moorland and peaceful valleys create the perfect setting for walkers, cyclists and anyone looking to reconnect with nature. It’s a wonderful place for energetic dogs who love wide open spaces and fresh mountain air.
The quieter beauty of the Cambrian Mountains provides miles of unspoilt countryside where you’ll often feel as though you have the landscape all to yourselves. Scenic forest tracks, country lanes and panoramic viewpoints make this one of Wales’ hidden gems for dog owners seeking peace and tranquillity.
Along the west coast, Cardigan Bay combines beautiful beaches with colourful harbour towns such as New Quay, Aberaeron and Newport. It’s not unusual to spot dolphins playing offshore while enjoying a walk along the shoreline before stopping for lunch at one of the many dog-friendly cafés or traditional Welsh pubs that happily welcome muddy paws.
Beyond the coastline, Wales is criss-crossed with beautiful woodland trails and forest walks, from the peaceful paths of Brechfa Forest to the woodlands of Afan Forest Park and the trails that weave through our National Parks. These shaded routes are perfect for adventurous dogs who love exploring new scents and discovering somewhere new.

Every property featured here is somewhere I’ve had the pleasure of photographing during my work as a property photographer. Seeing guests enjoying these beautiful locations—especially the four-legged ones—always reminds me why Wales is such a wonderful place to escape.
Whether you’re wandering the dramatic cliffs of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, discovering hidden coves on the Gower Peninsula, climbing the mountains of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), exploring the peaceful Cambrian Mountains, enjoying the seaside charm of Cardigan Bay, or following woodland trails through some of Wales’ beautiful forests, every adventure is made even better with a dog by your side.
From cosy cottages with roaring fires to modern retreats with enclosed gardens and miles of countryside waiting beyond the gate, I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph places that welcome dogs as warmly as they welcome their owners.
"Some dogs race across empty beaches. Others spend their days exploring forests before curling up beside the fire for a well-earned snooze. Those little moments are what holidays are all about, and they’ve become some of my favourite memories to capture through my camera."
Wherever you choose to stay, you’ll discover a country that genuinely embraces dogs as part of the family. From the dramatic coastline of Pembrokeshire and the Gower to the mountains of Mid Wales and the forests of Carmarthenshire, Wales offers welcoming holiday cottages, friendly country pubs, breathtaking scenery and countless adventures waiting to be shared with your canine companion.
I hope this growing collection inspires you to discover your own Pawfect Welsh Escape—creating memories that will last long after the muddy paws have been washed and the suitcases unpacked.
Here's to your next Pawfect Welsh Escape.
Happy exploring! 🐾
