Bug & Walter’s Snowy Wedding Story

A Winter Wedding Surprise

Saturday 3rd March 2018

Bug and Walter exchanged vows at Monkton Priory Church during March. What they didn’t expect was snow.

The winter weather created an unforgettable backdrop for their wedding day, adding an extra touch of magic to a date they had carefully chosen and instantly making their celebration one to remember.

The Details

Bug chose a stunning Justin Alexander fishtail gown from Emma Phillips Bridal. She added her own personal touches, including customised detailing and a personalised necklace that perfectly complemented her jewellery and tiara.

Beautiful orchids and roses created a cohesive look throughout the day, from the bridal bouquet to the venue décor. Floral arrangements decorated the reception tables, flower arch and buttonholes, bringing the entire celebration together.

Bridal Preparations

I have known Bug for many years and I always knew she was special. She comes from a wonderful family who would be there for anyone in need, so as you can imagine I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to capture their daughter's wedding day.

On the morning of the wedding,  unexpected snowfall threw many of the day's plans into turmoil. The wedding cars let her down, and she found herself traveling to appointments that were originally scheduled to be conducted where she was getting ready. I even recieived a message asking if I was still coming. Of course, there was no snow that was going to stop me.

This was one of the most important days of her life, whatever the weather.  When I arrived at the family home, a calm excitement filled the air, Laughter echoed through the rooms as hair was styled and final touches were added.

Surrounded by her bridesmaids, Bug enjoyed those final moments before becoming a wife. The bridesmaid dressed in elegant lace and chiffon gowns in matching styles, while the Maid of Honour’s dress featured distinctive mid-length sleeves, shared laughter and plenty of excitement while preparations continued around them.

Family At The Heart Of The Day

One of the most emotional moments of the morning came before the ceremony. Bug revealed herself to her father. Seeing his little girl ready to become a bride brought tears to his eyes and set the tone for the day filled with love and emotion.

Bug’s sister Natalie served as Maid of Honour, joined by sisters Katie and Janey. Along with cousins and friends as bridesmaids. Their support, laughter and friendship were woven throughout the day. Flower girls and page boys from both families helped make the ceremony especially meaningful, reflecting the close-knit nature of the couple’s relationships.

The Ceremony

Walter waited patiently surrounded by family and friends, the anticipation built. Then at 2.30pm the doors opened and Bug appeared, ready to begin the next chapter of their lives together.

The ceremony was filled with smiles, laughter and heartfelt emotion before they were finally announced as husband and wife.

Portraits at Monkton Priory Church

Nestled in the heart of the Pembroke, Monkon Priory Church provided the perfect backdrop for romantic portraits. Between celebrations we explored the grounds and surrounding area, capturing relaxed moments together as newlyweds.

A Reception To Remember

The celebrations continued at The De Valence, where guests enjoyed a buffet meal, magician, face painter, twin chocolate fountains and even an ice sculpture featuring the couple’s names.

The atmosphere was relaxed, joyful and filled with laughter throughout the day and evening.

One of Bug’s favourite moments was sharing their first dance to John Legend’s So High.

Another emotional highlight followed shortly afterwards when she shared a special dance with her father, creating a memory she still treasures today.

Overcoming The Unexpected

Not everything went exactly to plan.

The snowy weather meant their wedding cars were unable to attend, so Bug’s father stepped in, decorating his white Jeep with ribbons and driving the bride to the ceremony himself.

Sometimes the unexpected moments become the most memorable.

Favourite Memories & Advice

When asked about her favourite moments, Bug chose two: their first dance and cutting their six-tier wedding cake. And she gives advice to other couples planning their wedding day.

Don’t stress. The more you stress, the worse you feel.

Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and remember that if something doesn’t go to plan, it doesn’t have to spoil your special day.”

Featured on the Front Cover

One of my favourite covers to date. This portrait of Bug & Walter was chosen for the front cover of the Tenby Observer Wedding Planner.

Captured during the evening celebrations at The De Valence, Tenby, this image perfectly reflects the warmth, love and joy that surrounded them throughout the day. It remains one of my favourite photographs and a cover I am incredibly proud to have created.

Seeing it featured on the cover was a wonderful way to celebrate a couple whose warmth, resilience and love shone through every moment of their day.

Firstly, I must apologise the lack of updates on this blog but then again who actually reads? Times have been up and down to say the least, and that has played with my mental well being, especially when it has come to my photographic practice. For many years, I have concentrated on giving 100% to my passion and this is my source of income as a professional photographer. However, the pandemic has made me stop and think about sustainability within the photographic industry and just what is it all about and for what?

Photographs are not just images; they are physical artifacts. The physical form of the photographic image, prescribed by prevailing technology, determines what can be photographed, how it can be displayed or published, how it can be encountered by others, how it can circulate through public culture.
